What is Dogfrisbee

There are many good reasons to engage in the frisbee® sport with your dog. It is a great way to keep your dog in shape, not to mention your own! It is relaxing and gives enormous satisfaction to you see your dog having just as much fun as the handler.

Apart from that it promotes the buildup and preservation of a sturdy muscle mass. This improves the natural immune system of all muscles as well as the protection of the joints. Therefore it is safe to say your dog will experience a generally improved health.

In addition, learning how to throw the disc and training your dog to catch it is a real challenge, gratifying both trainer and trainee. Cooperation as a team is what enhances the relationship between dog and owner from which life at home can only profit. There is a clear diminished risk of the dog showing problem behaviour caused by mental boredom, simply because the dogs mind is stimulated sufficiently and will therefore look forward to the next training session together with its best friend, his master! When taking part in competion the whole family will have great fun as match days are a real outing and worth the effort!

Who are suited for this sport?

Even the breeds most fit for this sport aren’t born into it. It takes a lot of time, energy and patience to create a ‘top dog’. Which is why this sport may be suitable for almost all dog breeds, but not necessarily for all dog owners!

The sport came over from (how could it not be?) the U.S., where this way of being involved with your dog really established itself among the top sports. The yearly World Championships attract many thousands of visitors from all over the world, even if only a small number of countries were actually allowed to participate! ‘Were’, because as of the year 2000 European countries are allowed to take part as well due to the fanatical players here! In the States there is one organisation covering the frisbee® sport. One of the ensuing disadvantages we suffer by here in Europe is that suitablee frisbees® are so far produced in the U.S. only. Like real Dutchmen we wait to see which way the cat jumps before a company will stand up and profess to produce the discs for the European market. For the time being we’re putting up with this, as frisbeeing® with your dog is a tremendously fun thing to do, even if you would never consider taking part in competition. Fun for master and dog comes first, which is all the more reason to start straight away training yourself too after taking this course. Your dog buddy is surely beckoning you already!

SAFETY, A Importend Thing!!

Dogfrisbee® is a fun sport! The aim is for you and your buddy to have a lot of fun together. The great thing about this sport is that all dog breeds can participate. Even on competition level you will encounter various breeds. In our organisation you will train in small groups, allowing for maximum individual instruction. It is imperative you receive instruction from expert trainers who are taught to train in a responsible manner. The dog and its owner should train in a responsible way. For the owner this means a lot of practising throwing. You should never just start practising with your dog as injuries are easily incurred.

This is a special frisbee for dogs!!!

Hello Fooks, do you like frisbee 2 ??

This is a special frisbee for dogs!!!

Fastback Frisbees

Most frisbees® discs on sale are outright dangerous to your dog. Hard plastic frisbees®, or the ones with a cone attached to allow the dog to pick it off the ground, are dangerous and not suitable for sports use! These and other ‘promotional’ hard plastic frisbees® could cause loss of teeth or cuts to your dog’s mouth. A frisbee® should be made of soft plastic. It must allow folding without breaking. It should be absolutely free of sharp edges or protrusions, which can be dealt with using a knife or sandpaper.

Soft frisbees® made of cloth are all right to play around with, but not suitable for sports use. If for medical reasons a dog can train exclusively with these the match organisation may grant a special exemption.

The frisbees® that are used for sports purposes are quite safe. These are the so-called ‘Fastback’ discs. Unfortunately, up to this day these discs are made in the U.S.A. only and the model is patented. You can obtain them from us. We import these discs in Holland for training use. The permitted frisbees® are used all over Europe, so your dog will appreciate recognizing them when taking part in competitions.

Never allow the dog to play with the frisbee® on its own, keep it for training with the owner only. The fastback discs are dishwasher proof, which allows keeping them clean. The classic fastback disc is, however, sensitive to low temperatures and will break easily when used outdoors at or below freezing. The FLEX fastback disc can be used at any temperature and is therefore recommended.

Broken frisbees® belong in the waste bin. If the edge is torn it cannot be used with a dog anymore as it changes into an airborne weapon. The rules applicable to frisbees® are identical all over Europe and based on existing U.S. regulations. The Fastback discs in use for the sport are purpose-made.You should work with at least two to three frisbees®, and preferably five. If one would use only one disc, the game would turn into a retrieving exercise, which is not the idea and will make performing a Freestyle show extra hard.
